A Zoom meeting full of coaches up and down Wales were engaged in an absorbing session on Thursday 17 June listening to two leading exponents of the game. Glamorgan’s director of Cricket’ Mark Wallace and Mark O’Leary from the Western Storm and Cardiff MCCU both fielded a wide range of questions.

The subjects covered came from questions of those who tuned in. Discussions ranged from how the pair look at mistakes and use them as learning opportunities, with constant reflection on improvement as to how they both impart coaching knowledge.

Have a listen to Mark Wallace’s coaching philosophy about getting to know your  players,  knowing the game; and knowing yourself as a coach.

Western Storm's Trevor Griffin popped in as well and added his thoughts on his experience of coaching women’s cricket especially around the subject of being self-confident and  ‘pumping up the tyres’.

Both coaches looked at modern trends and where the game is going urging coaches to ‘stay current and relate to current role models’   They were quizzed on of the biggest challenges of coaching younger players and also how players are now very skilled from their absorption of top players on the TV.
