Two New Club Development Partners Appointed at Cricket Wales

Cricket Wales is delighted to announce the appointments of Lucy King and James Williamson as our new Club Development Partners, joining the Facilities Team under the leadership of Facilities Lead, Victoria Jones.

In their new roles, Lucy and James will be travelling the length and breadth of Wales, working directly with clubs to help them develop and thrive. From grounds maintenance support to securing funding for vital projects, they will be on the ground, using their extensive cricketing knowledge and strong regional relationships to help clubs strengthen their facilities and grow sustainably.

Victoria Jones, Facilities Lead at Cricket Wales, expressed her delight at the appointments: “I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome Lucy and James into the Facilities team. Their passion for community cricket, hands-on experience, and understanding of what clubs need to succeed make them invaluable additions. Having them out in the regions, supporting clubs with everything from improving pitches to unlocking funding opportunities, will make a huge difference in ensuring clubs across Wales can continue to thrive and provide fantastic environments for players and members alike.”

James Williamson, originally from Cornwall, James studied Sport and Exercise Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where his passion for helping children get active first began. He started his career as a PE Specialist with Super Stars before spending three brilliant years as a Cricket Development Officer with Cricket Wales. James has also supported children with disabilities through sport and volunteered with the Riding for the Disabled Association.

“I’m buzzing to now step into my new role as a Club Development Partner,” said James. “It’s an amazing opportunity to continue growing the game and supporting clubs across Wales.”

When he’s not helping clubs, James loves being outdoors, staying active, and enjoying a scone (jam first, of course).

Lucy King has been immersed in cricket for most of her life, both as a player and a coach. Around two and a half years ago, she joined Cricket Wales as a Cricket Development Officer, drawing on her teaching background and volunteer experience to deliver programmes in primary schools while also supporting clubs off the field.

Her journey with cricket began when she was first introduced to the game through a Chance to Shine programme at her primary school, an experience that inspired her to join her local club and ultimately paved the way for her career in cricket development.

“This role really feels like a full-circle moment for me,” Lucy shared. “Working closely with clubs off the field over the past couple of years has given me a real passion for supporting their growth, so I’m thrilled to take on this new role and help clubs across Wales continue to flourish.”

When she’s not playing or coaching cricket, Lucy enjoys keeping active, exploring new places, and taking European city breaks whenever she can.

With Lucy and James on board, Cricket Wales’ Facilities Team is better equipped than ever to support clubs of all sizes, helping ensure that cricket across Wales has a strong, sustainable foundation for the future.

Ends.
