Along with wife Jenny who has fulfilled the role of team manager, Les has overseen the management and coaching of disability cricket for over 11 years. He has also been actively involved in much of the initial school and community outreach work that has led to the development of programmes such as the Super 1s and Super 9s initiatives and has worked closely with schools, ALN departments and clubs across Wales to ensure that there are suitable opportunities and routes for players to fulfil their potential in disability cricket.

In 2019 Les organised a first ever international tour for the Wales team, travelling to Sri Lanka where they played a number of one day and T20 games.  In recent years the Disability operation has seen the Men’s 1st team achieve promotion back in the top tier of disability cricket across England & Wales and expand their hardball offer with the emergence of a Men’s 2nd XI this season, enabling more players than ever before the chance to compete in formalised hardball ECB competitions.

Speaking of Les’ contribution to Welsh Cricket, Head of Talent Pathway Matt Dando-Thompson said:

“People talk about leaving something in a better place than when you found it, and this couldn’t be truer when it comes to both Les and Jenny. The commitment they have given to Cricket Wales, the team/s and the players over the last 11 years has been unrivalled and they will be a huge miss for us. It hasn’t just been the cricket side of things either – the relationships Les has forged on and off the field, the countless hours he has supported people and helped them through some tough times, the miles he and Jen have clocked up travelling from Portsmouth in recent years – it’s quite remarkable when you stop and think about it, and we can feel incredibly lucky to have worked with them for many years.

They are both leaving a wonderful legacy behind at a time where disability cricket is really moving at a pace. A sizeable chapter is about to close, but at the same time a new one is always exciting and whoever comes in as his replacement will be inheriting a fantastic group of players and we look forward to developing the disability offering across the pathway with them.”
