Cricket Wales are pleased to welcome Andrew Walker to the staffing team as he joins the regional programme in a job sharing capacity with current regional lead Mark Cox in the south region.

Andrew is currently involved with Cowbridge Cricket Club as their junior coordinator, and has been a fresh face to the regional pathway scene over the last year. A ECB Core Coach in his own right Andrew brings a wealth of sporting and management experience to the role including roles at West Ham United as first team physiotherapist, Saracens Rugby and Scarlets Rugby as Head of Sports Medicine/Physiotherapist in addition to two years as the Performance Medicine Leader/Manager-Chef Therapeutic for Cirque Du Soleil based out of Montreal. Andrew moved back to the UK in 2019 to lead the performance medicine team across Europe and the Middle East for Cirque Du Soleil before getting back involved in local cricket.

Cricket Wales South (CWS) covers the traditional regions of West Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan and The Vale of Glamorgan and has been expertly lead by Mark Cox for the last two years. Whilst Cox remains in the role, he will lead duties across the girls teams and U10 U11 & U12 boys with Walker sharing the role with a focus on U13, U14 & U15 boys for the 2022 season.

With his role set to commence from Monday Andrew had to this to say at the prospect of starting:

"I am really looking forward to working with a great team and particularly Mark Cox who has been instrumental to the success and organisation of the region. This is an exciting time to join CWS and I hope - with the excellent coaches we have and a little bit of my experience in elite sporting environments - that we can help the progression of players to maximise potential in all aspects of the game and preparation over the coming years. I am looking forward to creating some great memories with the coaches players and parents involved in the pathway."

Cricket Wales Head of Talent Pathway Matt Thompson commented:

"I'm delighted to welcome Andrew to the pathway team. We had lots of interest in the role and a really strong interview field, but Andrew's vision for the role, coupled with his management and leadership experience really made him stand out. I have no doubt that he will add significant value to the region, the pathway and the organisation during the course of this summer."

From Monday, you can contact Andrew via email on [email protected]
