Recognising the Impact of Grounds Management

|

As Grounds Week unfolds from March 18 to 24, Cricket Wales takes a moment to reflect on the significant strides made in grounds management throughout 2023. The collaborative efforts of the Grounds Management Association and the England and Wales Cricket Board have played a pivotal role in supporting the appointment of Regional Pitch Advisors for cricket in Wales. This initiative aims to elevate the standards of sports surfaces and enhance the understanding of sports turf management practices among grassroots clubs.

In 2023, a new pitch advisor service was launched, accompanied by a bitesize education program that spanned across Wales. A total of 13 workshops were organised, with 140 enthusiastic participants in attendance. Building on this success, Cricket Wales is determined to expand the educational offerings in 2024, with an impressive line-up of 25 workshops already planned for the year ahead.

The workshops are designed to provide hands-on experience and practical knowledge to the dedicated volunteer network, empowering them to enhance the quality of pitches in their local communities. Grounds Managers, the unsung heroes of every cricket club, are at the heart of this endeavour. Their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts throughout the year are the cornerstone of the sport, ensuring that cricket thrives at the grassroots level.

Cricket Wales extends its heartfelt gratitude to all Grounds Managers for their invaluable contributions. Without their hard work and passion, the vibrant cricketing community in Wales would not be possible. This Grounds Week, let us come together to recognise and appreciate the vital role played by these dedicated individuals in shaping the future of cricket in Wales. Thank you, Grounds Managers, for all that you do.
