Owing to our previous Chair having recently joined the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)’s main Board, we currently have an opportunity to recruit a new Independent Chair, and an Independent Non-Executive Director (owing to the upcoming emigration of an existing Director).
As one of 39 County Cricket Boards that make up the ECB, and with the added unique responsibility as the National Governing Body for cricket in Wales, we exist ‘to lead, inspire and influence the growth, quality, and accessibility of cricket in Wales’.
We now seek a new Chair and one Non-Executive Director to join our Board and help us fulfil our strategic ambitions and vision of "Cricket capturing the imagination of Wales." As a Board Director, you will provide essential checks and challenges, mentorship, and support to Cricket Wales, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of governance. We place a strong emphasis on Board effectiveness and have fostered a culture of continuous improvement, which we encourage all Board members to contribute to in order to drive us forward.
The Chair and Non-Executive Director will play a pivotal role in fostering a robust, collaborative, and strategic Board environment. They will be dedicated to achieving excellent outcomes across all levels of the game, ensuring that local communities have meaningful opportunities to engage with cricket.
The Chair, in particular, will serve as a prominent external representative for our organisation. They will demonstrate excellent ambassadorial skills to advocate for Cricket Wales nationally and build positive and effective relationships within the cricket community and beyond. Emphasising our commitment to all levels of the game, the Chair will champion diversity and inclusion, encouraging participation from underrepresented groups. An essential aspect of this role will be to be accessible and visible to all stakeholders, engaging proactively with various individuals and groups.
We are determined to create a Board that represents the diverse communities we serve. We seek individuals who bring a diversity of thought, knowledge, professional expertise and lived experiences to our Board. We welcome applications from anyone who shares our vision and has the capacity and expertise to contribute to the positive impact of cricket in Wales.
While a passion for cricket would be advantageous, we also encourage applications from individuals who possess energy and enthusiasm for the positive impact of sports and charitable activities on supporting wellbeing, fostering social cohesion, and benefiting local communities.
A deep knowledge, commitment, and understanding of Wales are crucial for the role. While the ability to speak Welsh is not a requirement, an interest in the language's use in the country and a willingness to learn some basic "pleasantries" would be encouraged and appreciated.
TERM: Directors are appointed for a term of three years and can serve for a maximum of nine consecutive years. The Chair may serve up to 3 years, with a maximum of two such terms permissible.
TIME COMMITMENT: Typically, the Chair would be expected to spend 2 to 4 days a month on Cricket Wales business, but this may increase in exceptionally busy or critical periods. Non-Executive Directors typically spend 1 to 2 days a month on Cricket Wales business.
The Cricket Wales Board typically meets 6 times per year, including the AGM which is held in October. In addition to main Board meetings, Board Directors are asked to serve on a sub-committee(s) and to attend official events such as presentations, competition finals and other relevant events as available.
REMUNERATION: Voluntary with paid expenses.
