Criced Cymru/Cricket Wales appoint new Chief Executive

Criced Cymru / Cricket Wales are pleased to announce that Barry Cawte has been appointed as their new Chief Executive following an extensive recruitment process.

Barry, originally from County Meath in Ireland, lives in Newport and is currently the Chief Executive of Scottish Hockey and a member of the GB Hockey Board. He has 25 years’ experience across a range of sports having previously been CEO of the Welsh Rugby Players’ Association, the representative body for professional rugby players, and he has also served as the first Independent Chair of Tennis Wales. He was also the National Tennis & Sports Manager for Greenwich Leisure LTD, the largest leisure and sports operator in the UK.  In these roles Barry has had a significant impact on grass roots sport, increasing commercial revenue streams and driving equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Barry Cawte said “I am ecstatic to be joining Cricket Wales. I have admired the journey that the organisation has been on in the last few years and the progress it has made to make cricket as inclusive as possible. This is an area I am particularly passionate about and I want to drive the momentum already made in this space. I am extremely excited about the growth potential of cricket and getting out and about in the cricket community. I look forward to working with the board, staff team, Glamorgan Cricket, the ECB, Sport Wales, and all other partners.

Dr Tim Masters, Independent Chair of Criced Cymru / Cricket Wales, added “The Board of Cricket Cymru / Cricket Wales are delighted to have Barry joining as our next CEO. We were impressed by his passion and extensive knowledge of sport in Wales, and the skills and experience he possesses and will bring to the role. He was an outstanding candidate throughout our recruitment process. He joins as an important time as we look to develop the next phase of our strategic plan and continue to move towards being the most inclusive team sport in Wales”.

Barry will take up his role on 10th June 2024. Mark Frost will continue as Interim CEO until then and the Board of Criced Cymru / Cricket Wales wish to thank Mark for ensuring that we continue to deliver for all involved in cricket as we move towards the summer.

Criced Cymru yn penodi Prif Weithredwr newydd

Mae Criced Cymru yn falch o gyhoeddi bod Barry Cawte wedi’i benodi fel eu Prif Weithredwr newydd yn dilyn proses recriwtio eang.

Mae Barry, sy’n dod o County Meath yn Iwerddon yn wreiddiol, yn byw yng Nghasnewydd, ac ar hyn o bryd mae’n Brif Weithredwr Scottish Hockey ac yn aelod o Fwrdd Hoci Prydain.  Mae ganddo 25 mlynedd o brofiad ar draws amrywiaeth eang o gampau - bu’n Brif Weithredwr Cymdeithas Chwaraewyr Rygbi Cymru, sef y corff sy’n cynrychioli chwaraewyr rygbi proffesiynol, a bu hefyd yn gwasanaethu fel Cadeirydd Annibynnol cyntaf Tennis Cymru.  Roedd hefyd yn Rheolwr Tennis a Chwaraeon Cenedlaethol Greenwich Leisure Ltd, sef sefydliad hamdden a chwaraeon mwyaf y DU.  Yn y rolau hyn, mae Barry wedi cael dylanwad sylweddol ar chwaraeon ar lawr gwlad, gan gynyddu ffrydiau refeniw masnachol a hyrwyddo cydraddoldeb, amrywiaeth a chynhwysiant.

Dywedodd Barry Cawte “Rwy’n ecstatig fy mod yn ymuno â Criced Cymru.  Rwyf wedi edmygu’r siwrnai y bu’r sefydliad arni dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, a’r cynnydd a wnaed i wneud criced mor gynhwysol â phosib.  Mae hwn yn faes rwy’n arbennig o angerddol drosto ac rwyf am gynyddu’r momentwm presennol yn y maes.  Rwy’n hynod o gyffrous am botensial criced i dyfu, ac am fynd hwnt ac yma o fewn y gymuned griced.  Rwy’n edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda’r bwrdd, y tîm staff, Criced Morgannwg, yr ECB, Chwaraeon Cymru, a’r holl bartneriaid eraill.”

Ychwanegodd Dr Tim Masters, Cadeirydd Annibynnol Criced Cymru “Mae Bwrdd Criced Cymru wrth eu boddau’n cael Barry’n ymuno fel ein Prif Weithredwr nesaf.  Mi wnaeth argraff fawr arnom, gyda’i angerdd a’i wybodaeth eang o chwaraeon yng Nghymru, yn ogystal â’r sgiliau a’r profiad sydd ganddo ar gyfer y swydd.  Roedd yn ymgeisydd rhagorol trwy gydol ein proses recriwtio.  Mae’n ymuno ar adeg bwysig, wrth inni fynd ati i ddatblygu cam nesaf ein cynllun strategol, a pharhau i symud ymlaen tuag at fod yn un o’r gemau tîm mwyaf cynhwysol yng Nghymru.”

Bydd Barry’n dechrau ar ei swydd ar 10fed Mehefin 2024.  Bydd Mark Frost yn parhau fel Prif Weithredwr dros dro tan hynny, ac mae Bwrdd Criced Cymru am ddiolch i Mark am sicrhau ein bod yn parhau i gyflenwi ar gyfer pawb sy’n ymwneud â chriced, wrth inni symud tuag at yr haf.
