Brown commits to Wales National County

Followers of Welsh cricket will be seeing a lot more of former Glamorgan CCC staffer Connor Brown this summer after he committed to playing for the Wales National County side in all formats.

After making his List-A debut at Chelmsford against Essex in 2018 , 23 year old Brown was released back in September last year amid growing pressures on the size of Glamorgan's playing staff. Despite that disappointment Brown is keen to continue knocking on the door of the professional game through trialling with counties and through embarking on a strong campaign with Wales.

Being no stranger to National Counties cricket, and with the likes of Callum Taylor and Owen Morgan in recent years showing just how useful a shop window it can be to kick on to bigger and better things, Brown is optimistic about his chances. He said, "I'm really looking forward to being back in the Wales fold. Having played sporadically over the last few years I know it will provide me with a real opportunity to keep banging on the door. We have a great bunch of lads, most of whom I've played with as a youngster and I can't wait to get stuck in and drive us in the right direction."

With a career best 98 in his final List-A appearance at The Oval against a bowling attack including Morne Morkel and the Curran brothers, Head Coach Darren Thomas is delighted Brown has signed up for the 2021 season - "Connor will fit into the squad excellently. He will add runs, professionalism and clear ability to the young, exciting squad we have. Connor also has a wealth of professional experience to pass onto the aspiring young cricketers having come through own pathway and we all hope that he will break back into the first class game soon enough. Until he does, we are pleased to have him."

Wales kick off their season with a number of warm up matches before opening up their T20 campaign with a visit to Berkshire at Henley-on-Thames. Click here to view the full fixture list.
