Young Cricketers Receive Awards

Top young cricketers have received their Cricket Wales player of the month awards for outstanding performances with bat, ball and gloves.

The 2015 awards were given in a single end-of-season presentation at The SSE SWALEC (formerly SWALEC Stadium), during a Glamorgan County Cricket Club match.

Winners were:

May/ June

Tom Bevan (Wales U15 boys)

Tom (Cardiff and Vale) was away at Millfield School and unable to attend the presentation, but received the award for scores of 54 and 30 against Yorkshire in a two day game and 61 against Warwickshire, as well as his captaincy of the U15s.

Charlotte Scarborough (Wales U15 girls, U17 girls, and Wales women)

At 14 all-rounder Charlotte (Gwent) made her senior debut in May taking 2 for 27 off 7 overs.

Charlotte also scored a match-winning 58 against Cornwall U17 and another match-winning 45 not out against Millfield School. Charlotte scored 163 runs in May and June, took 9 wickets and was outstanding in the field. She was recently invited to the England U19 development day at Loughborough

July

Alex Horton (Wales U11 boys)

Alex (Gwent) hit scores of  81 against Warwickshire, 113 not out against Yorkshire, 167 not out against Staffordshire, 51 not out against Gloucestershire,  59 against Worcestershire,  and 75 not out against Kent. He also displayed top-class wicket keeping.

Jessica Thornton (Wales U15 and U17 girls)

Jessica (Gwent) bowled exceptionally well during the month of July taking 27 wickets at the cost of just 9 runs apiece. She took 4 for 14 against Somerset U17, and the next day 4 for 34 v Somerset U15. Her best performance in the Taunton U17 festival where she took 5 for 4 when Wales were defending 125 against Kent. Wales ended up dismissing Kent for 72 and winning by 53 runs. All this came after recovering from a broken thumb earlier in the season.

August / September

Kiran Carlson (Wales U17 boys)

Kiran (Cardiff and Vale) scored 77 against Gloucestershire and 111 against Hampshire in the ECB U17 competition. He then went on to score 73 and 39 for the West of England at the super 4 competition at Loughborough, followed by a brilliant 150 for Glamorgan 2nds against Leicestershire.

Lori Matthews (Wales U13 girls)

All-rounder Lori (Gwent) scored 62 out of a century partnership, which helped Wales to victory over Cornwall at the Malvern festival, also a very good 48 against Leinster, as well as taking 2 wickets for 5 runs against Kent

We have seen some exceptional performances from many of our young players this year,” said Cricket Wales performance manager, John Derrick.  “The award-winners are a real inspiration and a reminder of the impressive talent pool we have in Welsh cricket.”

 

Gwobrwyo cricedwyr ifanc

 Mae nifer o gricedwyr ifanc addawol wedi derbyn gwobrau chwaraewr y mis Criced Cymru am eu perfformiadau penigamp ar y meysydd criced.

Cyflwynwyd gwobrau 2015 mewn un seremoni gynhwysfawr ar ddiwedd y tymor yn SSE SWALEC (Stadiwm SWALEC gynt), yn ystod un o gemau Clwb Criced Morgannwg.

Tom Bevan (Bechgyn D15 Cymru)

Roedd Tom (Caerdydd a’r Fro) i ffwrdd yn Ysgol Millfield felly methodd â mynychu’r seremoni, ond derbyniodd y wobr am sgorau o 54 a 30 yn erbyn Swydd Efrog mewn gêm ddeuddydd a 61 yn erbyn Swydd Warwig, yn ogystal â'i gapteniaeth o’r tîm D15.

Charlotte Scarborough (Merched D15 a D17 Cymru, a Merched Cymru)

Yn 14 oed chwaraeodd Charlotte (Gwent) i’r tîm merched hyn am y tro cyntaf ym mis Mai gan gymryd 2 am 27 oddi ar 7 pelawd.  Hefyd sgoriodd 58 i ennill y gêm yn erbyn tîm D17 Cernyw a chafodd sgôr arall o 45 heb fod allan i ennill y gêm yn erbyn ysgol Millfield.  Sgoriodd Charlotte 163 o rediadau ym Mai a Mehefin, cipiodd 9 wiced ac roedd ei sgiliau maesu’n benigamp.  Yn ddiweddar fe’i gwahoddwyd i ddiwrnod datblygu tîm D19 Lloegr yn Loughborough.

Gorffennaf

Alex Horton (Bechgyn D11 Cymru)

Sgoriodd Alex (Gwent) 81 yn erbyn Swydd Warwig, 113 heb fod allan yn erbyn Swydd Efrog, 167 heb fod allan yn erbyn Swydd Stafford, 51 heb fod allan yn erbyn Swydd Gaerloyw, 59 yn erbyn Swydd Gaerwrangon, a 75 heb fod allan yn erbyn Caint.  Roedd ei sgiliau cadw wiced o’r radd flaenaf hefyd.

Jessica Thornton (Merched D15 a D17 Cymru)

Bowliodd Jessica (Gwent) yn arbennig o dda yn ystod mis Gorffennaf gan gipio 27 wiced ar gyfartaledd o 9 rhediad yr un yn unig.  Cymerodd 4 am 14 yn erbyn tîm D17 Gwlad yr Haf, a’r diwrnod canlynol 4 am 34 yn erbyn tîm D15 Gwlad yr Haf.  Rhoddodd ei pherfformiad gorau yng ngwyl D17 Taunton pan gymerodd 5 wiced am 4 rhediad  ar ôl i Gymru sgorio 125  yn erbyn Caint.  Yn y diwedd bowliodd Cymru Gaint allan am 72 gan ennill o 53 rhediad.  Llwyddodd Jessica i wneud hyn i gyd er iddi dorri asgwrn ei bawd yn gynharach yn y tymor.

Sgoriodd Kiran (Caerdydd a’r Fro) 77 yn erbyn Swydd Gaerloyw ac 111 yn erbyn Hampshire yng nghystadleuaeth D17 yr ECB.  Aeth ymlaen i sgorio 73 a 39 dros dîm Gorllewin Lloegr yng nghystadleuaeth y Super 4 yn Loughborough, ac yna cafodd sgôr gwych o 150 i ail dîm Morgannwg yn erbyn Swydd Gaerlyr.

Lori Matthews (Merched D13 Cymru)

Sgoriodd Lori (Gwent) 62 mewn partneriaeth  o gant a helpodd Cymru i drechu Cernyw yng ngwyl Malvern, hefyd cafodd sgôr da iawn o 48 yn erbyn Leinster, yn ogystal â chipio dwy wiced am bum rhediad yn erbyn Caint.

“Rydym wedi gweld rhai perfformiadau ardderchog gan nifer o’n chwaraewyr ifanc eleni,” meddai rheolwr perfformiad Criced Cymru, John Derrick.  “Mae enillwyr y gwobrau’n ysbrydoliaeth go iawn ac yn tystio i’r llu o ddoniau sydd gennym yn y byd criced yng Nghymru.”
