The Victorious
Wales U12 Team – Taunton Festival Winners (2014)
Wales U12 Squad
Teg Phillips (Capt), Jayden
Goodwin (V. Capt), James Archer, Nathan Berry, Morgan Bevans, Callum
Collins-Davies, Robbie Crawford, Ben Davies, Efan Davies, Ethan Griffiths, Sam
Jardine, Matt Jones, Jac Kennedy, Owen Reilly, Ryan Scrivens, Harri Turner.
Wales U12 v Somerset
A measure of the improvement in
the Wales batting was clearly evident in this match. Having been 1-6 wickets
earlier in the season against Somerset before being bowled out for a paltry 33,
Wales made an excellent 171-3, with Jayden Goodwin top scoring with 77 not out,
ably supported by Matt Jones 30. The Wales bowlers were determined to get
revenge for the early season defeat and Callum Collins-Davies took 2 early
wickets, including that of the highly rated Will Smeed for 12, well caught by
Robbie Crawford. Only S. Reed with 33 offered any real resistance as the Welsh
spinners Teg Phillips 2-16, Ben Davies 2-17 bowled miserly spells, reducing
Somerset to 116 all out. Wales won by 55 runs and picked up 17 Festival points.
Wales U12 v Worcestershire
Match abandoned without a ball
being bowled. Wales gained 4 Festival points.
Wales U12 v Essex
On a rain affected wicket, the Welsh seam bowlers bowled too short and
too many boundary balls (19), allowing Essex to score 154-9. Sam Jardine 3-24
and Teg Phillips 2-33 were the main wicket takers, with Ben Davies 1-16 and
Jayden Goodwin 1-18 bowling economically.
In reply, Jayden Goodwin was dismissed in the first
over and Wales never recovered. Opener Jac Kennedy with a painstaking 29 not
out batted throughout the Wales innings to leave Wales on 117-7 at the close.
Wales hung on for a losing draw to pick up 9 Festival points.
Wales U12 v
Yorkshire
On a damp wicket, Wales were put into bat and found runs very difficult
to come by, scoring 130-5 from the allotted 50 overs against a very good
Yorkshire bowling attack, which was backed up by some outstanding fielding.
Jayden Goodwin was the pick of the Wales batsmen with a hard earned 52 not out,
batting throughout the innings, being well supported by James Archer who scored
36.
In reply the Yorkshire batsmen found runs equally
difficult to come by with all of the Welsh bowlers bowling well. But at 101-4
off 31 overs it looked as though Yorkshire would gain a comfortable win.
However, the wicket of Revis for 39 in Phillips’ last over changed the game.
Left arm spinner Ben Davies took two further quick wickets and the introduction
of off spinner Harri Turner, who took a match winning 4-14 from 8 overs turned
the game completely on its head. Wales eventually bowling Yorkshire all out for
120, with the last 6 wickets falling for just 19 runs. It was the Wales
spinners who won the day with Harri Turner 4-14, Ben Davies 2-40, Teg Phillips
2-15 and Jayden Goodwin 1-36 bowling very good spells. The 15 run win saw Wales
pick up 16 Festival points. This was undoubtedly the best performance of the
season.
Wales U12 v
Cornwall
Needing to gain maximum points
from their final match to win the Festival, it was important that the Wales
team remained focused after a long week. They didn’t disappoint, bowling
Cornwall all out for 95 in 37.3 of the 40 allotted overs. Jayden Goodwin 3-9,
Callum Collins-Davies 2-15 and Sam Jardine 2-22 being the pick of the bowlers,
with 2 run outs. In reply, openers Jayden Goodwin (44n.o) and Matt Jones
(41n.o) had little difficulty in securing a 10 wicket win. The win gave Wales a
maximum 18 points, to win the Taunton Festival for the first time.
Winning the Taunton
Festival was a fantastic achievement and was reward for the effort and hard
work that the boys had put in throughout the season.
Tîm Dan 12 Cymru’n ennill Gwyl
Taunton
Mae Tîm Criced
Bechgyn Dan 12 Cymru wedi ennill Gwyl fawreddog Taunton, gan drechu Swydd Efrog,
Gwlad yr Haf a Chernyw i gipio’r teitl.
“Mae hwn yn
gyflawniad aruthrol ac yn wobr i’r bechgyn am eu holl ymdrechion a gwaith caled
trwy gydol y tymor,” meddai hyfforddwr y tîm Mike Knight. “Y fuddugoliaeth yn erbyn Swydd Efrog yn
ddiamau oedd perfformiad gorau’r tîm am y flwyddyn.”
Cymru D12 yn erbyn
Gwlad yr Haf
Gwelwyd i ba raddau mae batio Cymru wedi gwella yn ystod yr
ornest hon. Ar ôl sgorio un rhediad am
chwe wiced yn gynharach yn y tymor yn erbyn Gwlad yr Haf, cyn cael eu bowlio
allan am 33 pitw, sgoriodd Cymru 171-3 gwych, gyda Jayden Goodwin â’r sgôr
uchaf o 77 heb fod allan, gyda chymorth medrus Matt Jones (30).
Roedd bowlwyr
Cymru’n benderfynol o ddial am gael eu trechu’n gynnar yn y tymor a chymerodd
Callum Collins-Davies ddwy wiced gynnar, gan gynnwys un y chwaraewyr dawnus,
Will Smeed am 12, a ddaliwyd yn fedrus gan Robbie Crawford. Dim ond S.Reed gyda 33 a lwyddodd i
wrthsefyll yr ymosodwyr mewn gwirionedd wrth i droellwyr Cymru, Teg Phillips
2-16, Ben Davies 2-17, fowlio’n dynn iawn, gan olygu mai dim ond 116 i gyd
allan oedd cyfanswm Gwlad yr Haf.
Enillodd Cymru o 55 rhediad a chasglu 17 o bwyntiau’r Wyl.
Cymru D12 yn erbyn
Swydd Gaerwrangon
Canslwyd yr ornest heb fowlio’r un bêl. Cafodd Cymru 4 o bwyntiau’r Wyl.
Cymru D12 yn erbyn
Essex
Bowliodd
sêm-fowlwyr Cymru’n rhy fyr a chael eu taro at y ffin yn rhy aml (19 tro) gan
ganiatáu i Essex sgorio 154-9 ar wiced a effeithiwyd gan y glaw. Sam Jardine (3-24) a Teg Phillips (2-33) a
gymerodd y mwyaf o wicedi, gyda Ben Davies (1-16) a Jayden Goodwin (1-18) yn
bowlio’n gynnil.
Mewn ymateb, cafwyd Jayden Goodwin allan yn y belawd gyntaf
a methodd Cymru â dod yn ôl i’r gêm.
Batiodd yr agorwr Jac Kennedy yn bwyllog trwy gydol y batiad gan sgorio
29 heb fod allan i adael Cymru ar 117-7.
Daliodd Cymru ati gan osgoi cael eu bowlio allan a chasglu 9 o
bwyntiau’r Wyl.
Cymru D12 yn erbyn
Swydd Efrog
Gofynnwyd i Gymru fatio’n gyntaf ar lain laith, a chawsant
hi’n anodd iawn i sgorio gan gyrraedd 130-5 o’u
50 pelawd yn sgil bowlio da iawn a maesu rhagorol gan Swydd Efrog. Jayden Goodwin oedd batiwr gorau Cymru, gan
frwydro’n galed trwy gydol y batiad i sgorio 52 heb fod allan, gyda chefnogaeth
dda gan James Archer, a sgoriodd 36.
Mewn ymateb,
cafodd batwyr Swydd Efrog hi'r un mor anodd i gael rhediadau, gyda holl fowlwyr
Cymru’n bowlio’n dda. Roedd hi’n edrych
fel petai Swydd Efrog am ennill yn gyfforddus pan oedd y sgôr yn 101-4 ar ôl 31
pelawd. Fodd bynnag, newidiodd y gêm pan
lwyddodd Phillips i gael Revis allan am 39 yn ei belawd olaf.
Cymerodd y troellwr llaw chwith Ben
Davies ddwy wiced gyflym arall, a throwyd y gêm wyneb i waered pan gipiodd y troellwr llaw dde Harri Turner bedair wiced
am 14 rhediad oddi ar 8 pelawd. Yn y pen
draw bowliodd Cymru Swydd Efrog i gyd
allan am 120, gyda’r chwe wiced olaf yn disgyn am 19 rhediad yn unig. Troellwyr Cymru a seliodd y fuddugoliaeth gyda Harri Turner 4-14, Ben Davies 2-40, Teg
Phillips 2-15, a Jayden Goodwin 1-36, yn bowlio’n dda iawn. Yn sgil y fuddugoliaeth o 15 rhediad,
casglodd Cymru 16 o bwyntiau’r Wyl.
Cymru D12 yn erbyn
Cernyw
Am fod angen
iddyn nhw gael y mwyaf posib o bwyntiau o’u gornest derfynol i ennill yr Wyl,
roedd hi’n bwysig bod tîm Cymru’n dal ati i ganolbwyntio ar ôl wythnos
hir. A dyna a wnaethant, gan fowlio
Cernyw i gyd allan am 95 mewn 37.3 o’u 40 pelawd. Jayden Goodwin (3-9), Callum Collins-Davies
(2-15) a Sam Jardine (2-22) oedd y bowlwyr gorau, gyda dau rediad allan. Mewn ymateb, ni chafodd yr agorwyr Jayden
Goodwin (44 h.f.a.) a Matt Jones (41 h.f.a.) fawr o drafferth sicrhau
buddugoliaeth o 10 wiced. Rhoddodd y
fuddugoliaeth yr uchafswm o 18 o bwyntiau i Gymru, gan olygu eu bod wedi ennill
Gwyl Taunton am y tro cyntaf erioed.
“Mae pawb yn Criced Cymru wrth eu boddau gyda’r canlyniad,”
meddai prif weithredwr Criced Cymru Peter Hybart. “Mae Gwyl Taunton yn ddigwyddiad pwysig a
hynod o gystadleuol, ac mae’r llwyddiant hwn yn un gwirioneddol arwyddocaol.”
