Wales U/12 travelled to the Taunton Festival in confident mood having lost only one match throughout the season. However, in a very rain affected season, the rain once again caused major disruption at the Festival with only one match played over the full 50 over duration.
Results as follows :-
Day 1 : Wales 67-6 v Worcestershire – Match Abandoned (40 over match)
Day 2 : Somerset 67-10 v Wales 71-2 – Wales Won by 8 wickets (20 over match)
Day 3 : Wales 205-9 v Essex 57–2 off 20 overs – Match Abandoned (40 over match)
Day 4 : Yorkshire 112-8, Wales 113-8 – Wales won by 2 wickets (40 over match)
Day 5 : Cornwall 106-10, Wales 107-4 – Wales won by 6 wickets (50 over match)
Highlights of the Festival :-
Matthew Blake 70 v Essex, 54 v Cornwall, 46n.0 v Somerset, 3-15 v Yorkshire
Robbie Clarke 53 v Yorkshire
Dan O’Sullivan 3-10 v Yorkshire, 2-14 v Cornwall, 1-2wkts v Somerset.
Roman Walker 3-13 v Cornwall.
All of the Welsh players performed well and their behaviour both on and off the field was exemplary.
Although completely outplaying Essex, before the match was abandoned due to heavy rain, frustratingly, it was Essex who were crowned Taunton Festival winners by 1 bonus point, with Wales U/12 Runners Up.
