Wales 70s
Following the successes of the Wales Over 50 and Over 60 sides an Over 70 side was established in 2017. After a successful first season the fixture list was extended for 2018 to compete in two competitions and also in a number of friendly fixtures.
One side plays in the 70+ National County Cricket Championship playing in the South and West Division, the top four sides progressing to the national knockout stages. A team is also entered in the western regional FCL 67+ Inter County competition.
There are currently around 30 playing members to cover the two sides that are put out most weeks. Currently home matches are played in South and Mid Wales but members come from all parts of Wales. With a combined fixture list of 30 plus matches we are actively looking to recruit new members age 67 or older who would welcome the opportunity to play good quality competitive cricket at veteran level. Female players over the age of 60 are eligible to play and would be made most welcome, as indeed would any new member.
In conjunction with Wales 60s there is a fully organised structure with an annual general meeting which elects executive officers and other officials and receives and approves the annual accounts. Prior to the season indoor nets are held.
We are very anxious that older players from all parts of Wales should be aware that there is the opportunity to play representative cricket at this age group where comradeship is very much part of our ethos.
