The Under 10s Cricket Wales Festival took place at Aberystwyth between the 20th and 22nd of August. This was the 27th successive Festival held in Aberystwyth. Matches were played on University grounds and at Aberystwyth Cricket Club.
Cardiff and the Vale, Carmarthenshire, Eryri, Gwent, Mid Glamorgan, North East Wales, Pembrokeshire and West Glamorgan entered the competition and all played 3 matches across the 3 days.
The festival gives players the opportunity to take part in a number of games of competitive cricket, whilst staying at accommodation at Aberystwyth University. For many of the players it is the first time that they have stayed away from home and family, so the festival develops life skills within players and not just the sport skills.
The festival has a proud tradition of the festival being a fun, enjoyable experience and this year was no exception. All squads thoroughly enjoyed the cricket, hospitality of the University’s restaurant and sport facilities and also the town’s beach and pier!
Tom Cartwright, first set up the festival over 20 years ago and it is not just about which teams won and lost. All teams are marked by their opposition on areas such as Sportsmanship, Team Performance, Spirit of the Game, Behaviour and Appearance.
This year’s winners were Mid Glamorgan, who particularly shone with their appearance and general attitude throughout the 3 days and many congratulations to them.
Many thanks to Aberystwyth University and Aberystwyth Cricket Club (particularly for their bacon rolls!); both did a fantastic job again in making this year’s festival a one to remember.
