Cardiff CC U13s - Winners
The National U13 Club Championship Finals took place at Newport CC on Sunday. It was a rare fine day but the legacy of weeks of rain meant that runs were very much at a premium.
The competing teams were Cardiff, Gresford, Kilgetty and Swansea Civil Service.
In the Semi-Finals, Swansea Civil Service posted 58 for 5 in their 20 overs, a total Kilgetty reached for the loss of three wickets. Also, Cardiff bowled Gresford out for 48 and went on to win comfortably by nine wickets. Swansea Civil Service then scored an impressive 131 in the 3rd/4th Playoff match. In reply, Gresford made a creditable 106 for 3 but this was not enough to win the match.
The Final was contested, therefore, by last year’s winners, Cardiff, and Kilgetty. Kilgetty got off to a good start reaching 49 for 3 with Toby Poole making 28. However, a four-wicket spell by Mujahid Ilyas and a remarkable over by David O’Sullivan, when three wickets fell, saw them finish on 64 all out. In reply, Cardiff reached their target in the seventeenth over for the loss of three wickets.
All players were presented with medals by Glamorgan bowler, Huw Waters, who reminisced of the time he played in the competition on the same ground. Cricket Wales Chief Executive also attended the presentation and thanked all involved in its successful completion.
Cardiff now go on to represent Wales in the ECB National Competition, their opponents in the next round being South Wilts CC from Salisbury.
