Pontarddulais Crowned 2025 Senior Welsh Cup Champions
In a day shaped by passion, resilience, and flashes of both weather and cricketing brilliance, Pontarddulais were crowned 2025 Senior Welsh Cup Champions after a commanding victory over Usk at a superbly hosted event by Vale Cricket Club on Sunday.
Despite the threat of inclement weather hanging over much of Wales, the microclimate in Corntown worked wonders. Other than a brief 10-minute delay, the action unfolded smoothly under shifting skies that eventually gave way to glorious sunshine and an electric atmosphere. The setting at Vale Cricket Club was nothing short of spectacular. With fantastic catering, warm hospitality, and tireless volunteers, the club put on a truly memorable day for players and spectators alike.
“Huge thanks to all the volunteers involved in an incredible day. The welcome, the effort, and the passion shown by everyone was outstanding,” said Barry Cawte, CEO of Cricket Wales.
The day began when Usk won the toss and chose to field first, looking to take advantage of the early overhead conditions. However, Pontarddulais put together a disciplined and competitive innings, scoring 195 for 7, with valuable contributions throughout the order. Their total gave them a strong foundation to defend, especially in cup final pressure.
After the interval, Usk came out to bat but only faced two deliveries before the threatening Welsh weather returned. Fortunately, the interruption was short-lived, and play resumed under brighter skies and growing anticipation.
However, the chase never quite ignited for Usk. Pontarddulais delivered a brutal fielding and bowling performance, relentlessly building pressure and taking wicket after wicket. Usk were ultimately bowled out for 108, sealing a comprehensive victory for Pontarddulais by 87 runs.
The win was a proud moment for Pontarddulais, who showcased their all-round strength, composure under pressure, and clinical edge when it mattered most.
With a trophy in hand and the sun setting on a brilliant day in Corntown, the 2025 Senior Welsh Cup Final was a fantastic display of cricket and community.
