Regional Competition - Under 15

The Final, held at Sudbrook Cricket Club on a breezy September day saw Gwent bat first and post 144 - 9 in their 45 overs. The Cardiff & Vale bowlers and fielders kept a tight rein throughout over the Gwent batsmen. Jack Thorp-Yon (29) and Gareth Ansell (28) built a foundation but no batsmen could ever dominate on a dry spinning wicket. Joe Voke (21) and James Hussey (24) and Lewis Holley (17 no) made useful contributions but the bowling of Patrick Keane (3-22) Keiran Carlson (2-23) amd Conor Brown (3-37) along with some astute field settings and excellent ground fielding kept the Gwent batsmen in check. However a target of 145 was always going to be a challenge on a wearing wicket.

Gwent made an early break through when Yori Moore slashed Ben Weillington to Callum Philpot at point. But then Captain Joe O'Gorman and Conor Brown played watchfully with, once again, some great ground fielding, particularly by Wellington, Thorp Yon and Richard Roberts in the covers, kept the run rate down. Leg spinner Matthew Jones bowling his 9 overs for just 14 runs. The drinks break brought the 2nd wicket with O'Gorman mistiming a pull from James Hussey (2 - 25 ) to Joe Voke at mid wicket. Ben Jones (2 - 16) then took 2 wickets in 2 balls to leave Cardiif & the Vale 90 - 4. Conor Brown reached a patient 50 and joined by Patrick Keane decided attack was the best form of defence and they added a quick 30 until Conor having hit the first 2 balls of Hussey's over for four mistimed a drive to Thorp Yon at cover fro an excellent 69. However, still 30 to win, 2 more wickets fell but Keane driving down the ground and pulling with great effect saw Cardiif & the Vale home with 8 balls to spare.

The Trophies and Cup were presented by Ian Morgan (Junior Council member) and Ted Tipper (Cricket Wales Board member) with the final photographs and celebrations bringing the the season to end end.

A special thanks to Rob and Gordon Voke at Sudbrook CC for hosting the Final and to Mike Rouse and Lyn Hall for officiating.
