Winners Gwent Under 11
Runners Up West Glamorgan Under 11
West Glamorgan batted first on a bright, breezy, sunny day. Gwent struck an early blow when Elllis James bowled Tom Milford. This brought in Ryan Thomas to join Nathan Lee. Gwent's bowlers all bowled a good line and length which along with energetic fielding made scoring difficult. Tomos Lynbeck bowling a spell of 8 overs for just 11 runs. Both batsmen eventually began to gain confidence and play more freely. They added 98 before James struck again bowling Thomas for 43. Lee brought up his half century and remained undefeated on 55 and West Glamorgan on 130 - 2 after their allotted 40 overs.
Gwent in reply were also pinned down by some excellent bowling from Brin Goss and Callum Williams and slipped to 53 - 6. Scott O'Leary was then joined by Oscar Waters, the pair batted patiently and sensibly to bring Gwent back into the game. Scott reached his 50 but the required rate was creeping up. Oscar was then run out attempting a quick single after a excellent 65 run partnership, Gwent required 12 from the last 2 overs. Only 4 came from the 39th over leaving 8 off the last, 5 runs came from the first 5 balls, which included 3 dropped catches eaving Gwent requiring 3 off the last ball to be bowled by Sam Jardine to Ellis James. Mid Off and Mid On dropped back a few yards but as it turned out Ellis James made a great contact and the ball beat Mid Off. With the crowd on their feet 2 runs were completed, the return was relayed back but the shy at the stumps went wide and allowed the 3rd run to be completed and Gwetn won a thrilling match. An outstanding advert for Welsh Junior Cricket.
A special thank you to Newport Cricket Club, coaches, managers supporters and the Wales Association of Crricket Officials, Monmouthshire District for providing officials.
The trophies were presented by Cameron Herring, a Tredegar and Gwent young cricketer who has just signed a 3 year Professional contract with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
