presentation at the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff.
Outstanding batting, bowling, wicketkeeping and fielding
have been recognised in the latest Cricket Wales player of the month awards.
Glamorgan player Will Owen, himself a product of the Cricket
Wales development programme, made the presentations to players who have
excelled in Wales teams.
Chris Matthews (Mid Glamorgan) of Wales U14s was named May /
June boys player of the month for his 98 v Hampshire, 94 not out v Somerset and
five wicketkeeping dismissals. He was unable to attend the presentation and
will receive his award next month.
The May / June girls player of the month was Lauren Parfitt (Gwent)
of the Wales senior women's team for her all-round ability, including 5 for 20
off 10 overs v Worcester and 31 not-out; 3 for 18 v Durham, three catches and a
run out.
The July boys player of the month was Mujahid Ilyas (Cardiff
and Vale), of the Wales U14s for his 92 v Middlesex, 78 v Devon, and bowling figures
of 3 for 41, 3 for 14, 2 for 13, and 2 for 40; as well as 110 v Bedfordshire,
playing for the U15s.
Ellie Hopkins (Cardiff and Vale) of the U17 and senior teams
was the July girls' player of the month for a brilliant 132 not out v Cheshire.
“These awards are an excellent reminder of the wealth of
talent we have in Welsh cricket,” said Cricket Wales performance manager, John
Derrick. “It’s very pleasing that we can recognise some of the outstanding
performances each month, but worth remembering that this represents just the
tip of the iceberg as far as achievements by our players are concerned.”
