North Wales KWIK Cricket 2012
18th July 2012

The festival dates are planned very early by Cricket Wales and the Local Authority Sports Development staff to prevent clashes with other sporting events and activities the Schools participate in during June, reserve dates are arranged but over the last few years have rarely been necessary. That was not the case this year.
The proposed Regional finals were on to be 3rd and 5th July with the mixed event at Colwyn Bay County ground and the girls at Northop Hall Minor County ground. Unfortunately both original events were cancelled without a ball being balled. The y were duly rescheduled for the following week but it was clear that neither of the grounds would be playable the day before each event so both were moved to Northop CC.
The constant rescheduling and subsequent movement of venue meant that a number of Schools were unable to attend the new dates, but it was decided to go ahead with a reduced number of teams. The girls event was won by Flintshire’s Ysgol Bryn Coch Mold and the mixed by Powys’ Guilsfield CP in a closely fought round robin competition beating Wepre CP on runs scored in a very tactical final game. A Powys school was last at the Nationals in 2005 so coach Mrs. Birch was naturally extremely proud of her team.
Both Schools were delighted to be going to the ECB National finals at Grace Road and were hurriedly preparing the travel arrangements a couple of days before the events took place.
