Mike Gatting presents the U13 Winners' Cup to Jess Thornton at Lord's
Further to the success of Newport Cricket Club's success in securing the national U13 Trophy by their U13 Girls' team, thier excitement at winning this competition was further enhanced by a trip to Lord's so that the trophy could be re-presented by former England Captain, Mike Gatting, before the YB40 final between Glamorgan and Nottinghamshire.
The Newport Girls Take a Lap of Honour at Lord's
In a message to Peter Hybart, CEO of Cricket Wales, Newport's coach, Mike Knight, commented,
"It was a memorable day – Paul Bedford’s help; the welcome we received from ECB; the photos on the pitch; the Presentation; the time Mike Gatting spent with the girls talking to them afterwards was all brilliant. But the lap of honour around the ground stopping for photos with the UK Cup in front of the main bank of cheering Glamorgan fans was truly awesome. A day the girls will remember for the rest of their lives."
