Lauren Shows The Way

Wales Women were frustrated in their efforts to get their campaign in Division 2 of the ECB County Championship off to a winning start.

The match against Scotland at St. Helens, Swansea, on Sunday was called off at 1.30pm due to the damp conditions on the wicket with heavy overnight rain having got under the covers.  Despite the best efforts of the groundsmen, the umpires decided that conditions were not improving and called a halt.

The team moved on to Pontarddulais on Monday and came away with a convincing 84-run victory against Essex. The star of the show was Lauren Parfitt of Newport CC who scored 109no in a Wales total of 217-6.  In reply Essex were bowled out for 133 in the 41st over.  Beth Langston top scored for the visitors with 65.  Claire Thomas took 3-22, Nicole Reid 2-25, Naomi Davies 2-24.

Wales will now travel to play Devon in Sidmouth on Sunday 24th May and Worcestershire in Kidderminster on Monday 25th May.
