Cricket Wales is pleased to announce that four young Welsh players will be part of the Wales and the South West of England squad that will compete in the 2012 Bunbury Under 15 Festival. The players selected are:
Jack Thorpe-Yon Newport Cricket Club Gwent Junior Region
Matthew Jones Newport Cricket Club Gwent Junior Region
Callum Eakins Gowerton Cricket Club West Glamorgan Junior Region
Aneurin Donald Gorseinon Cricket Club West Glamorgan Junior Region
The Wales and the South West of England squad of fourteen players will play against the three regions of England – the North, the Midlands and the South East – in a week-long event to be held at Repton School, Derbyshire from Monday 23rd July. At the end of the week the ECB’s David Graveney and his team of coaches will select a limited number of players for winter training at the ECB High Performance Centre in Loughborough.
Cricket Wales Performance Manager John Derrick offered his congratulations to the selected boys: ‘Once again Wales will be well represented at the Bunbury Under 15 Festival and I’d like to offer my congratulations to the four boys selected and to wish them the best of luck at this important event. In addition to Jack, Matthew, Callum and Aneurin, Wales had a number of other players in contention, most notably Connor Brown – I would encourage them to keep working hard at their game and I’m sure that further opportunities will come their way’
Peter Hybart, CEO for Cricket Wales added: ‘The Wales and the South West of England area covers eleven County Boards, of which four are First Class County Boards. In this context it can be seen that with four boys out of a squad of fourteen, Cricket Wales continues to ‘punch above its weight’. Well done to everyone at club, regional and national level who has been involved in the development of these young players to date, and best of luck boys for your memorable week at the Bunbury Festival’
