Development Manager Appointed

Cricket Wales is pleased to announce that Gavin Hawkey has been appointed as its new Development Manager.

Gavin is employed as Active Sports Manager with Sport Cardiff (Cardiff County Council) but is currently on secondment as Technical Operations Manager (Football), with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG).  This role involves the organisation of the Olympic Football Competition in Cardiff and builds on Gavin’s previous event organisation experience that includes co-ordinating the UK School Games.

Prior to the LOCOG secondment Gavin had been Active Sports Manager with Sport Cardiff for the previous six years. This role involved the leadership and management of a team of 15 sports development staff which included liaising with Glamorgan Cricket on the Council’s investment in Glamorgan’s Cricket in the Community programme. Previously Gavin has held a number of football development roles linked to the Welsh Football Trust and the FA.

As Cricket Wales Development Manager, Gavin will lead a large community team which will soon number almost thirty Community Coaches/Cricket Development Officers. The team will continue to focus on introducing as many juniors as possible to the game, keeping juniors and seniors in the sport, and broadening the appeal of cricket.

Cricket Wales CEO Peter Hybart believes that Gavin will add valuable breadth to the cricket development experience that already exists within the team: ‘Following a successful recruitment process that involved Cricket Wales and all its funding partners, we are delighted to have appointed someone of Gavin’s experience and background to the role. The Development Manager position is a vital new post that will drive forward the ambitious community targets that have been identified in our Ashes legacy plans’.

Gavin joins the Cricket Wales team on Monday September 3rd on completion of his LOCOG secondment.
