Cricket Wales Statement Regarding Rugby and Cricket

|

Cricket & Rugby

We are in active discussions with the WRU to ensure minimal impact on cricket. The WRU is trialling some mini and u11 festivals in the summer in certain parts of Wales this year. Cricket Wales' officers are in discussion with the WRU as to how cricket can be safeguarded and not impinged on.

We are working with Rugby so that cricket protects its time slots for young people in the summer period. This will involve local mapping of when sport is organised so that both sports (and possibly others) are more likely to fit together and not clash.

The latter certainly will happen if we do not plan with the WRU. Discussions have already been taking place with Ryan Jones Head of Development for WRU and his colleagues involved in this pilot. We are actively sharing plans and appreciate this opportunity to work together. Some of the festivals will be 'More than' festivals with space for cricket.
