Bold New Strategic Plan Launched

|

Cricket Wales is proud to unveil our new strategic plan, Criced: A Sport for All, marking a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape the future of cricket across the nation. Developed in partnership with Glamorgan Cricket and in collaboration with key partners including Sport Wales, the ECB, Chance to Shine, and Lord’s Taverners, the plan is a bold, inclusive, and people-powered roadmap to grow the game for everyone, everywhere in Wales.

At the core of Cricket Wales’ strategy lies a revitalised vision, Criced: A Sport for All, that reimagines cricket as far more than just a game. It's a unifying force, a shared experience where every child stepping onto the pitch, every individual finding their rightful place in the game, every volunteer offering time and heart, every club embracing local pride, and every community rallying behind the stumps, can see cricket not merely as a sport, but as a place of belonging.  A space where inclusion flourishes, passion finds its purpose, and everyone, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance, feels seen, valued, and deeply connected.

People and Culture are at the centre of our vision and Together we will Lead and Care for a Sport that can have a lasting impact on our communities across the whole of Wales

The mission is clear and urgent, Protecting What’s Precious. Revolutionising the Future.

“As we look ahead, we are not just safeguarding a tradition, we are revolutionising the future of our game.  As a proud cricketing collective, alongside our partners at Glamorgan, this strategy honours the sport we love, from grassroots to the elite level,” said Barry Cawte, CEO of Cricket Wales.

“This strategy reflects the voices of our cricketing community and the values we hold dear. It is our shared game plan for progress. Together with Glamorgan Cricket and our wider cricketing family, we will lead a transformation rooted in inclusion, integrity, and community.”

“We simply can't achieve this bold and ambitious vision without our partners the ECB,  Sport Wales, Lord Taverners, Chance to Shine and most importantly all of our people, clubs and volunteers right across the Welsh Criced community”.

Guided by Cricket Wales’ core values: Together. Lead. Care, these values underpin every aspect of the strategy and will inform decision-making, action, and accountability across all levels of the game.

Built around five strategic pillars and three foundations including People & Culture, Thriving Clubs, Women & Girls, Facilities, EDI, and more, the plan outlines a once-in-a-generation opportunity to grow a game that is inclusive, sustainable, and accessible in every corner of Wales.

Running parallel, Glamorgan County Cricket Club , has launched its own joined up strategy to support elite performance, community engagement, and facility excellence. With a vision to Make Wales Proud, Glamorgan’s 2025–2028 plan outlines six core objectives, including developing international and franchise-level players, enhancing Sophia Gardens, and delivering breakthrough growth in revenue and reach.

“The UK cricket landscape is changing rapidly,” said Dan Cherry, CEO of Glamorgan Cricket.
“Being one of the eight host venues in The Hundred has put us in a strong position to reap the best possible rewards from the recent Project Gemini investment process. It presents opportunities for Glamorgan that we have never had before and, with this strategy, we intend to grasp this and embed ourselves as one of the top eight clubs in the UK.”

Cherry added: “Our strategy is intrinsically aligned with Cricket Wales, reinforcing a shared vision to grow cricket in Wales from recreational grassroots right through to elite performance. We are committed to building seamless pathways, engaging with communities, and ensuring that Welsh cricket excels on and off the pitch.”

Mark White, Cricket Wales Head of Participation, also welcomed the alignment:
“This new strategy, Criced: A Sport for All, is not just a document, it is a commitment to act. Progress will be measured, shared, and celebrated transparently, ensuring every stakeholder is part of the journey. We invite everyone, from lifelong players to first-time fans, to help write the next chapter.”

Together, Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket are forging a unified direction for Welsh cricket, one that connects grassroots opportunity with professional ambition and ensures every person, regardless of background, identity, or circumstance, feels seen, valued, and inspired.

“This is our time,” added Cawte. “This is our sport. We move forward together, with pride, passion, and purpose, this is the Welsh way.”
