16 clubs across Wales recognised as ECB Disability Champion Clubs
Cricket Wales is proud to celebrate 16 clubs from across the country who have become ECB Disability Champion Clubs this year, underlining a shared commitment to making cricket more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for disabled people in communities throughout Wales.
The Disability Cricket Champion Club programme is designed to help clubs create meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy the game, whether that is through playing, volunteering, officiating or simply feeling part of their local cricket community. It is about more than a badge of recognition; it is a commitment to opening the gates wider and ensuring that more people can experience cricket in an environment where they are supported, valued and encouraged to thrive.
For clubs, becoming a Champion Club means access to guidance, resources and practical support to help build inclusive provision that can make a real difference locally. The programme also helps clubs strengthen links with schools, service providers and community groups, creating more pathways into the game and helping ensure that disability cricket continues to grow across Wales.
This year’s 16 successful clubs deserve enormous credit for stepping forward and embracing that opportunity. Their success reflects a growing appetite across Wales to make the game open to all and to create club environments where disabled people can feel not only welcome, but truly included. Every session created, every new player engaged and every barrier removed helps strengthen the game for everyone.
One club to previously capture the spirit of the programme is Haverfordwest CC, whose words neatly sum up the pride and purpose behind becoming a Disability Champion Club. “We are delighted to announce that Haverfordwest CC has become an ECB Disability Champion Club,” the club said, in a statement that reflected far more than a successful application. It was a declaration of intent, a sign of a club determined to provide safe, inclusive opportunities for both juniors and adults with disabilities, and to ensure more people can enjoy the game and feel part of their cricket community.
Cricket Wales would like to congratulate all 16 clubs on their achievement: Aberdare, Abergavenny, Abergele, Aberystwyth, Cresselly, Ebbw Vale, Gwersyllt Park, Haverfordwest, Lisvane, Newport, Penarth, Pentyrch, Port Talbot Town, Radyr, Swansea and Civil Service, and Ynysygerwen. Each of these clubs is helping shape a stronger, more inclusive future for the game in Wales.
