Young Leaders Event a Great Success at St Asaph CC
This week we were delighted to host a Young Leaders event at St Asaph Cricket Club, bringing together 23 enthusiastic young people aged 14–17 for a day focused on developing leadership skills through cricket and activity.
Throughout the session, the group explored what it takes to be an effective leader. Participants learned about the importance of clear communication, encouraging others, and creating fun and inclusive activities where everyone can feel confident taking part. The aim of the event was to help young people begin developing the skills needed to support cricket sessions, assist coaches, and take on leadership roles within their clubs and communities.
A highlight of the day came when the young people had the opportunity to put their learning into practice. Working in small groups, they planned and delivered their own games and activities for their peers, stepping into the role of leader for the first time. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow as they explained rules, organised their groups, and encouraged others to get involved.
One participant, Jac Williams of Hawarden Park CC, reflected on the experience, saying:
“Days like today make me more confident in helping out with younger members of the club if they wanted some help.”
The energy, creativity, and teamwork shown throughout the day were outstanding, and it was clear that the participants embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. Events like this play an important role in helping to develop the next generation of young leaders in cricket, giving them the confidence and experience to take on more responsibility within the game.
Following the event, the young leaders will now return to their own cricket clubs where they will begin volunteering and supporting sessions, helping with activities such as All Stars Cricket and other junior club programmes. This provides them with the opportunity to put their new leadership skills into practice while supporting younger players and contributing to the growth of cricket within their local clubs.
A huge well done to all the young people who took part and helped make the day such a success. The future of young leadership is looking very bright.
We would also like to thank St Asaph Cricket Club for hosting the event and everyone who supported the day.
