Christ College Brecon Supports the Aberystwyth Festival

A Winning Future for Welsh Cricket:
Christ College Brecon and Cricket Wales Launch New Partnership

Cricket Wales and Christ College Brecon are delighted to announce a new partnership aimed at supporting the Aberystwyth girls’ and boys’ festival as it celebrates its 40th anniversary this August.

Generations of players have experienced this unique festival which is a highlight of the pathway calendar. This collaboration comes at a time when demand to play cricket is growing, as is the superb cricket programme on offer at Christ College Brecon.

Recognised as one of the UK’s leading cricketing schools in The Cricketer magazine’s Top 100 Cricket Schools, the programme at Christ College Brecon (CCB) provides an outstanding co-educational environment where players of all abilities can thrive.

With 12 boys’ and girls’ teams playing more than 100 fixtures through the summer, the programme combines broad participation with high-performance pathways, enabling players to develop their game while supporting talented cricketers to reach their full potential.

Operating year-round, the programme offers players structured winter training and a competitive fixture list against prestigious opponents, including the MCC, Cricket Wales Regional sides, and Glamorgan development squads. Players on their pathway programmes also benefit from personalised strength and conditioning, tactical analysis, and weekly one-to-one coaching to support their individual development.

Underpinned by outstanding facilities including the new Colin Kleiser outdoor nets, and extensive playing fields in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, CCB has established strong development partnerships with Cricket Wales and Glamorgan CCC. The programme has a proven track record of nurturing regional talent and achieving success in national competitions.

Mark Frost, Head of Partnerships at Cricket Wales, said:

“Giving young people high class cricket experiences is at the heart of what we do, and this partnership will go a long way to help keeping them in cricket, developing their game and so develop high quality players of the future. We are really pleased to be partnering with Christ College Brecon to support not just this event but several other festivals in Brecon as well.

As well as the Aberystwyth Festival, Cricket Wales will running shorter festivals at the school in July and August and offering CPD opportunities for the staff in due course.”

Matt Dando-Thompson, Head of Talent Pathway at Cricket Wales, said:

“The Aberystwyth Festival stands for so much more than just cricket – it’s where players forge lifetime memories, build lasting connections, develop confidence in themselves away from the field as well as the on-field activity. It’s something that has an incredibly special place in Welsh cricketing hearts and – given that part our Cricket Wales strategy is about ‘protecting what’s precious’ – it’s hugely exciting that Christ College Brecon recognise that and share our desire to bring that to life even further.”

Sam Hewick, Director of Sport at Christ College Brecon added:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Cricket Wales to help grow the game and create exceptional cricketing experiences for young players across Wales. Together, we’re committed to providing opportunities that enable young cricketers to develop their skills, fulfil their potential and pursue their ambitions, whatever their aspirations may be.”
