Flushing Away Barriers for Women and Girls at Maesteg CC
Maesteg Cricket Club has taken another important step in its commitment to growing the game after completing a £19,000 refurbishment of its women’s and accessible toilet facilities, supported by a £15,000 grant from the 2026 ECB County Grant Fund.
Completed in June 2026, the project transformed facilities that had remained largely unchanged since the clubhouse was built. The old toilets had become tired, dark and no longer reflected the experience the club wanted to provide for its members, visitors and community groups.
The refurbishment included new toilets, lighting, ventilation, tiling, fixtures and fittings, alongside a full redecoration of both the women’s and accessible toilet facilities. The result is a bright, modern space that is fit for the growing number of people using the club.
While the project focused on improving facilities, its impact reaches much further. Maesteg CC has worked hard in recent years to grow opportunities for women and girls, with an established women’s softball team and the recent addition of an Under-12s Girls team. The investment helps ensure that the club environment reflects those ambitions and provides a positive experience for everyone who walks through the door.
For many people, quality facilities are something that can easily be taken for granted, but they play an important role in making participants feel comfortable, valued and part of the club. By investing in spaces specifically used by women, girls and those requiring accessible facilities, Maesteg CC is helping to remove barriers and create an environment where more people can enjoy the game.
The benefits will also be felt beyond cricket. As a community hub, the club regularly hosts local organisations and activities, including primary school sports days, WeightWatchers and Special Families, a charity that supports individuals and families affected by additional needs and social isolation. The upgraded facilities will improve the experience for hundreds of people who use the venue throughout the year.
The project forms part of the club’s wider vision to continue developing its facilities and supporting the growth of women and girls’ cricket, with further improvements planned in the future.
Amanda Morgan, Maesteg CC, said: “With over 70 women and girls now registered at the club, this investment has come at exactly the right time. The women’s toilets hadn’t been upgraded since the clubhouse was built almost 30 years ago, so the transformation has made a huge difference. We have our Under-12s Girls team playing at home this week and our women’s team hosting a friendly, and it’s fantastic to be able to provide facilities that reflect the growth of the women’s and girls’ game at Maesteg CC. It’s not just our players who benefit either, but also the schools and community groups who use the club throughout the year.”
Through the support of the ECB County Grant Fund, Maesteg Cricket Club has been able to invest not just in bricks and mortar, but in the future of the club, creating facilities that better serve its members, community and the next generation of players.
