Women’s Welsh Plate and Cup Finals Weekend Round-Up
Carmarthen Wanderers Cricket Club played host to a spectacular day of women’s cricket this past weekend, as the Welsh Plate and Cup semi-finals and finals unfolded in windy, yet glorious sunshine and with an electric atmosphere. With excellent facilities and warm hospitality, Carmarthen Wanderers proved to be the perfect venue for a day that showcased the very best of the women's recreational game in Wales.
The day began with the Women's Plate semi-finals, where Bronwydd faced Newbridge. Bronwydd were in fine form, securing a convincing 77-run victory to book their place in the final.
In the second semi-final, Dinas Powys held their nerve in a closely contested match against Colwyn Bay, edging a 16-run win to join Bronwydd in the Plate final.
The Plate Final saw Dinas Powys build on their earlier momentum, posting 120 for 5. Their bowlers then did the job with precision, dismissing Bronwydd efficiently and sealing a comprehensive 51-run victory to be crowned Women's Welsh Plate Champions.

Attention then turned to the Welsh Cup semi-finals, where Llandeilo outclassed Monmouth in the first game. A strong all-round display earned them a 38-run win, setting the tone for the second semi-final.
There, Sudbrook delivered a dominant performance against Llandudno, chasing down the target with ease to claim a 9-wicket victory, setting up a high-quality Cup final against Llandeilo.
The final did not disappoint for Sudbrook supporters, as their side produced another assured display. Chasing their target with control and composure, Sudbrook triumphed by 8 wickets to become the 2025 Women’s Welsh Cup Champions.
From start to finish, the day was a celebration of the growing strength and depth of women's cricket in Wales. The standard of cricket including lots of high quality batting, bowling and fielding was fantastic to see.
"It was a fantastic display of women’s cricket, great atmosphere, great weather, and super hosting from Carmarthen Wanderers. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible," said Barry Cawte, CEO of Cricket Wales.
With memorable performances, excellent sportsmanship, and a true sense of community spirit, the 2025 Women’s Welsh Cup Finals Day was a resounding success and a strong marker for the continued growth of the women’s game across the country.
