Women & Girls Roadshows bring the cricket community together across Wales

Cricket Wales has brought together coaches, volunteers, players and club representatives at two Women & Girls Roadshows over the past fortnight, with events held at Rydal School and Pentre Awel.

The roadshows provided an opportunity for those involved in women’s and girls’ cricket to connect, share experiences and ideas, develop their knowledge and explore ways to continue growing the game across Wales.

With a focus on supporting clubs and the people who make cricket happen, the events featured practical coaching sessions, opportunities to learn from others and discussions around some of the key challenges and opportunities facing the women’s and girls’ game.

From developing coaching skills and exploring the transition from softball to hardball cricket, to sharing ideas on how to grow and sustain women’s and girls’ sections, the roadshows encouraged collaboration and highlighted the importance of creating welcoming, inclusive environments where more women and girls can thrive.

The sessions also provided valuable opportunities to learn from experienced voices within the game, with Rachel Priest, Head Coach of Glamorgan Women, and Aimee Rees, Head of Women & Girls Cricket at Glamorgan, sharing their knowledge and expertise with attendees. Take Her Lead also played an important role in the programme, delivering a presentation to inspire discussion and support the development of women and girls in cricket.

Just as importantly, the events gave attendees the chance to network with others who share a passion for the game, celebrate the progress already being made and take away ideas to put into practice within their own clubs and communities.

Growing the women’s and girls’ game is a collective effort, and supporting clubs, coaches and volunteers remains central to ensuring more females have the opportunity to discover cricket, develop their skills and enjoy being part of the sport.

Cricket Wales would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making both roadshows a success. Special thanks go to Rachel Priest, Aimee Rees and Take Her Lead for sharing their expertise and insights, and to Maiden Cricket, our partner, for their continued support, and Soleau for supplying water for the events.

The enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment shown across both events demonstrate the strength of the cricket community in Wales and the collective ambition to create more opportunities for women and girls to get involved in the game.

Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future for women’s and girls’ cricket across Wales.
