Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales Invite North Wales Organisations to Shape Future Facility Development

Glamorgan Cricket, in partnership with Cricket Wales, has launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) process inviting organisations across North Wales to help shape the next phase of cricket facility development in the region.

The EOI relates to proposed regional cricket hubs and centres of excellence and forms part of a wider programme of work led by Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales, working closely with Actif North Wales and independent partners. The project is exploring sustainable, future-focused models that support participation, player development and community access across North Wales.

This next step follows two well-attended engagement events held recently in Colwyn Bay and Wrexham, which brought together clubs, leagues, local authorities and key stakeholders. These sessions provided an opportunity to share ideas, identify priorities and outline aspirations for the future of cricket in the region. Feedback from both sessions has directly shaped the scope and focus of the EOI, ensuring that local insight remains central to any future plans.

Through the EOI, organisations are invited to express interest in contributing to a range of potential roles, including:

  • Hosting a major indoor or outdoor cricket facility
  • Hosting an outdoor covered facility
  • Acting as a lead operator
  • Delivering programmes and activity
  • Supporting through funding or investment

This open and collaborative approach reflects a shared commitment from Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales to work alongside local partners to identify solutions that are both ambitious and rooted in local communities.

Glamorgan Cricket’s Strategic Vision to ‘Make Wales Proud’ and to establish itself as a Top 8 club in the new UK cricket landscape, is firmly grounded in developing the next generation of young boys and girls. Providing outstanding facilities alongside aligned coaching and development programmes is fundamental to the future success of the game in Wales. These proposed hubs will help ensure that talented boys and girls across North Wales have every opportunity to develop into outstanding cricketers capable of representing Glamorgan and Welsh Fire in the future, while also strengthening connections between communities and the professional game.

The North Wales hubs project also aligns closely with Criced: A Sport for All, Cricket Wales’ national strategy, which places long-term facility development at the heart of growing and sustaining the game across Wales.

High-quality, accessible facilities are recognised as essential to supporting clubs, developing players, increasing participation and creating welcoming environments that communities can use year-round. The proposed hubs are intended to serve multiple purposes supporting grassroots cricket, performance pathways, recreational play and wider community use helping to strengthen the game at every level.

By working in partnership with Glamorgan Cricket, the project connects regional ambition with national expertise, ensuring that any future facilities are well-positioned to support both local need and the broader Welsh cricket pathway.

Glamorgan Cricket Chief Executive Dan Cherry said: “It was fantastic to visit North Wales and to meet the people who are driving the game forward in the area. It is vital that we continue to develop the game in the North of the country and to provide opportunities for the talented girls and boys that are playing the game.

“Improved facilities will allow us to be more visible and to develop the game alongside Cricket Wales as we move into an exciting phase for the future of the game, following the recent Hundred sales process. We look forward to working with the various partners to drive this project forward.”

The EOI process marks an important step in a longer journey. It is designed to encourage collaboration, invite new ideas and create a clear, structured route towards investment and delivery, should suitable opportunities be identified.

Organisations with an interest in supporting the development of cricket in North Wales whether through facilities, programmes or partnership are encouraged to engage with the process and help shape what comes next.

The closing date for Expressions of Interest is Wednesday 6 May 2026.
