Support for Clubs
Support for Clubs with a Women and Girls Section Dedicated Club Development Officers are on hand to help you plan, develop and strengthen your women and girls’ cricket offering, whatever stage your club is at. We have a dedicated Women and Girls Development Officer, alongside a team of Club Development Partners who all work closely with cricket clubs to provide support with developing Women & Girls cricket. Whether you’re just starting your first girls’ team, or are looking to grow and embed your offering, we can work with you to put a plan in place.
Starting Women and Girls Cricket From Scratch
We recognise that it’s not always easy to start running women and girls’ cricket at your club – and we’re here to help.
Our W&G Development team are dedicated to supporting clubs to start new women’s and girls’ sections.
We provide a range of support, tailored to your club, to help you start a new women or girls’ team. From helping you to write a W&G Development Plan and linking your club in with local primary schools, to providing coaching assistance at girls’ taster sessions and advice with league entries, we will work with you to put a plan in place that works for your club. We can also help you recruit and train new volunteers and provide specialist support for coaches of your women and girls’ teams.
A really simple way to start growing and developing W&G cricket at your club is to write a Women & Girls Development Plan – This will help you think through the key activities you need to consider across different areas, work out when each activity needs to happen, and identify key areas that we can support you with. It’s important to recognise that this won’t happen overnight, but setting out your ambitions is a good way of identifying what needs to be done now.
There’s no better time to start running W&G cricket at your club – it expands your membership base and opens up funding opportunities.
Developing Existing Women and Girls Cricket
Developing your existing women and girls’ section can sometimes bring its own challenges – and our team is here to support you.
For clubs who already run women and girls’ cricket, our team of Officers are here to provide you with guidance and support to ensure the female sections of your club are fully embedded within the club’s governance and culture, and can provide you with advice and tools to help you to consolidate and grow these sections.
Club Culture
We recognise the impact a positive culture has on women and girls’ cricket – and we’re here to support your club to build strong, inclusive foundations.
What a Good Club Looks Like
A good cricket club is welcoming and inclusive, offering opportunities to play, volunteer and socialise, supported by leadership and governance that reflect its membership. It provides safe, accessible and well-maintained facilities, has strong safeguarding and welfare in place, and actively listens to its members. Above all, it is built on a positive culture that promotes respect, equality and a sense of belonging.
What this means for Women & Girls
For Women & Girls’ cricket to thrive, clubs must go further than simply offering teams. A good club actively removes barriers to participation by ensuring women and girls feel welcome, visible and valued.
This includes equitable access to pitches and facilities, female representation in leadership and decision-making, inclusive changing and social spaces, and a culture that challenges assumptions and outdated hierarchies.
When these foundations are in place, women and girls sections thrive as fully integrated sections of the club and Women and girls are far more likely to stay, progress and lead within the game.
How we Support Clubs to Get There
The starting point is understanding where your club is now. Development Officers will work with you to complete a simple audit and develop a clear Women & Girls Development Plan to guide next steps.
We provide tailored support to help turn plans into action, supporting participation growth, governance and female representation, volunteer development, safeguarding, welcoming facilities and, where appropriate, access to funding.
The Surrey Women in Cricket Network supports both women and male Champions of Women & Girls’ cricket, connecting volunteers and leaders through learning, development and shared practice to drive positive cultural change.
We recognise every club is different and work alongside you at a pace that supports sustainable progress and a stronger future for Women & Girls’ cricket in Wales
