Cricket Wales Celebrates Ron Pearson’s British Empire Medal

Cricket Wales is delighted to congratulate Ron Pearson on being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s Honours List for his outstanding services to cricket.

Ron’s remarkable journey with Gwersyllt Park Cricket Club spans an incredible 63 years, beginning when he first walked through the gates as a 14-year-old boy. By the age of 18, he had already taken on the responsibility of club secretary, demonstrating a commitment and maturity that would define his entire tenure.

Throughout his distinguished service, Ron has been instrumental in transforming Gwersyllt Park Cricket Club into one of the finest facilities in Wales. He played a pivotal role in the construction of two clubhouses, ensuring the club had the infrastructure needed to serve both its members and the wider community. Under his stewardship, the club has evolved into a thriving community hub that is utilised daily and benefits over 3,000 local residents.

Ron’s vision has extended far beyond traditional cricket. He has been a passionate advocate for inclusive cricket, championing disability cricket programmes and driving the development of women’s and girls’ cricket in the region. His dedication to youth development has created pathways for countless young people to discover and enjoy the sport, ensuring the future of cricket in North Wales remains bright.

Cricket Wales recognises that individuals like Ron Pearson are the foundation of our sport. His six decades of voluntary service represent an extraordinary contribution to cricket in Wales, building not just facilities and programmes, but a genuine sense of community and belonging.
