Disability Cricket

Super 9s (North Wales)

Super 9s is an inclusive competition for disabled and mixed-ability cricketers, giving players in North Wales the chance to experience team cricket in an adapted, supportive format.

Using a shorter, softball game and smaller squads, it focuses on enjoyment, involvement and development rather than pressure. Players can learn the game, grow their skills and represent their region, with clear pathways to progress if they want to. Whether someone is new to cricket or looking for a step into more structured competition, Super 9s offers a friendly, positive environment where everyone has a role to play.

Becoming an inclusive club

Cricket is an inclusive sport by its nature – a sport that many people play, follow and have a passion for being involved in.

Across Wales we wish to support cricket clubs to open their gates and deliver cricket opportunities for those with disabilities. Cricket Wales will support cricket clubs through guidance, training and resources. This will enable them to welcome individuals with additional needs and varying abilities to support them in playing, following, officiating and/or volunteering to create a truly equitable club game and providing fantastic new opportunities for cricketers. Cricket Wales will provide ongoing assistance supporting clubs to create links with their local schools and service providers. Cricket Wales will also signpost players to further opportunities and support clubs to arrange match-play opportunities.

Support & Resources

Cricket Wales will also help in accessible coaching sessions and resources to assist with participants and running engaging sessions. These sessions will help contribute towards the club becoming InSport accredited.

The InSport club programme is part of the broader InSport project, which aims to support the physical activity, sport, and leisure sectors delivering inclusively of disabled people.

Disability Sport Wales know that the majority of adults get to experience great quality sport opportunity within a club environment, and that disabled people may not want to just play sport within a disability sport or impairment specific club or session.

The purpose for the InSport club programme is therefore to support clubs in developing their provision so that it includes disabled people with clubs structures which provide the best opportunities to the community, increase participation and membership, enable larger sections of the community to become involved within a voluntary governance role, and continue to provide great sport across Wales.

What you need to be a disability inclusive club

  • A Club Safeguarding Officer.
  • Trained first aider on site at all sessions.
  • Accessible facilities – if this provision is not currently in place Cricket Wales will support you to address this.
  • A commitment from the club to provide a fun and welcoming environment for all.
  • Adequate space to run an additional section.
  • Full and evidenced support of the club committee.
  • At least one qualified coach to lead the sessions.
