Head of Talent Pathway (Matt Thompson)

Matt was appointed in April 2018 from the prestigious Millfield School in Somerset. A ECB Level 3 Coach, Matt has a strong coaching background through previous roles which included Performance Director of Cricket at Cardiff Met University. A first class degree and PG Dip in Sports Coaching, as well as qualified PE teacher and lecturer Matt is responsible for the talent pathway which encompasses Regional Cricket, the Wales Age Groups, the coaching and programming within the pathway whilst maintaining close working relationships with Glamorgan to ensure a pipeline of cricketers Wales can be proud of. 

Women & Girls Lead (Aimee Rees)

A stalwart of Welsh Cricket, Aimee has been largely responsible for the incredibly strong reputation that girls cricket in Wales enjoys. A former player for the Senior Women, Aimee leads on many aspects within the women's game and currently is Head Coach for the U17s, Development XI and Senior Women's side. Aimee is a member of the ECB Talent Scouting network and part of the coaching team within the Western Storm Regional Development Centre. 

Safeguarding Director (Ieuan Watkins)


A retired policeman after 31 years service Ieuan leads all aspects of Child Welfare within Cricket Wales, and brings a vast amount of experience to a vitally important role. Ieuan is an ECB County Welfare Officer and is Co-Chair of the ECB Referral Management Group. He is also the Safeguarding Adults in Sport Manager for Wales through the Ann Craft Trust. A hugely respected member of the cricket community, Ieuan is the 'go-to' person for any queries or concerns within the pathway, and across the organisation. 

SAM PAINTER – Cricket Wales North Pathway Lead (                   


Sam joined the pathway team to lead the newly formed Cricket Wales North for the winter of 2019. A Cricket Wales community coach, and a highly respected figure in the cricketing network Sam is responsible for all pathway activity within Cricket Wales North which encompasses the formerly known Eyri, North East and Mid Wales regions. 

DARREN THOMAS – Regional Performance Manager (Neath)

As well as a distinguished career for Glamorgan spanning 13 years, Darren brings a wealth of coaching experience to the programme having been involved in the National Age Group setup for several years, running the Neath National Development Centre in addition to his coaching duties with Wales Minor Counties. Darren was recently successful in securing a place on the much coveted ECB Level IV course, which will only serve to benefit the programme moving forward. Darren is the lead coach of the Glamorgan CCC Junior Academy andwill lead Wales U17s in summer 2019.

GERAINT LEACH – Regional Performance Manager (Sophia Gardens)


Geraint joins the RPM team with a strong coaching background across Wales. Geraint has been involved with Gwent Regional Cricket for many years and has been a fine assistant coach in some of the National Age Groups over the last few years. A Level 3 coach in his own right as well as a Masters in Sports Coaching and Performance, Geraint will adds dynamism to the Sophia Gardens centre.

ALISTAIR WALDRON – Regional Performance Manager (Ebbw Vale)


Having also been involved in the National Age Group setup for a number of years, Ali’s broad  coaching background is largely in Coach Education and Sport Development across Cricket and Cycling (he is currently Workforce Officer for Welsh Cycling). An ECB Coach Education Tutor and recently added to the Sport Wales Leadership Programme, Ali is himself a highly accomplished Level 3 Coach and will undoubtedly add considerable value to the Ebbw Vale centre.
